It most definately is. If you look at his profile, Jon is userid 21361 and purplemonsterRR is userid 21363. Created just after each other, with another random person inbetween his registrations. Afterall, it's hard to create two accounts in 5 seconds.

This is the exact reason that my guild only allows players 25 and older to be in the guild and we only party up with each other. They are some of the best people I have met online or offline and would give up any item if someone needed it. I for one will never play with a PUG....to many losers in this world.

Simply put, not rezing a fallen party member to get a drop is wrong. I have been in that situation twice now (me being dead and a max purple dropping) and on one of the occasions the other pt member realized it was only fair to give me MY item. When in a pt it is your responsibility to do YOUR job and that includes rezing dead ppl if u can. Jerks who wait to steal an item should be banned.

If they are not taking their item and some choose not to, then its open season once it goes public. I have no problem taking items that others choose to leave behind. If they are afk and not helping group, then that item will be mine when it goes public.

Nonetheless, there are always going to be ppl who choose to steal items and in that case they are going on my block list.

I'm a loot hound. When backtracking, anything that's gone public I pick up. The exception to this is items I know that are good and dropped for someone else. Then I ask them if they want it. Like in FoW, I'll grab all Dark Remains and bones without care, but if there's an ecto on the ground and it dropped for someone else who decided to stick with the group instead? They get it back. Shadows Shields 15 and better? I give back.

While people sometimes make it reall easy to get one over on them, generally I've found if you treat people right, you get treated right.

I had a different situation happen to me. I was doing Thunderhead Keep with a group, and was manning the west catapult with my fire elementalist. Another elementalist was manning the east catapult. This is a great strategy to beat the mission, but both of us on the catapults got stiffed on gold items. What happens is as an ele. we can cast from the bridge to the group below fighting so we never have to leave the catapults. Of course, all of the loot that drops under there has to sit until the mission is basically done if we are to stay at our posts. Both of had a gold and couple of purples drop, sat there for over 5 minutes and then were picked up by others. I even said that I would not leave my post as long as people left my drops alone. They didn't. Really the only thing I could have done since I had already completed the mission previously and was only helping others get through it, would have been to map or log out and leave them to fend for themselves. With both elementalists/catapult operators being gone, the mission would not have lasted long and they would have had to do it all over again. Of course I didn't do that but I won't group with them again.

My opinion, every drop should stay assigned permanently.

I strongly agree.

Even if nothing else changes at all, I would consider that a clear improvement over the current system. (I'm sure the developers are shaking their heads, after they went to the work of putting the feature in when people complained when it was the other way.)

I had an experience where it was just me and a monk. A gold item dropped and he stopped healing me. Once I died, he took my item! Now that the sucks.

Default Having drops never lose ownership is not feasible

I remember in Diablo 2 (where drops were public the moment they dropped) that Sorcerors had a skill to pickup items from a distance!! -- Luckily that got changed so that they could only pickup potions (very common item)... but hey they then had no chance of getting any good drops if they stayed far away like casters are supposed to.

D2 is such a clicking-frenzy game... sometimes, to be the first to pickup a drop, a person or 2 in the team did not even attack the mobs! -- they just stood around clicking madly hoping for a Jah rune or such

During my first party in Pre-Sear I had a sudden rush of "oh jeez I gotta be quick to grab" and "since we are just 2 people are we gonna alternate the drops, or?" but was pleasently surprised. Having a timeout is sensible but is obviously exploited by not ressing or by sabotaging the team to die and be the only survivor. Pop-up boxes would drive players nuts... the only suggestions left are:

(i) be able to click the item from a distance and choose to reserve it,
(ii) not have item become public unless said person is gone from game

I would say that (i) is much more feasible because Mr Griefer could just say "ok guys I'm not gonna res anyone.... I got all day to wait for Mr Dead-Owner to quit so I can acquire that juicy drop" which would drive people doubly mad... Mr Griefer know he has alot to gain from doing this, and also that Mr Dead has nothing to gain by waiting unless (a) Mr Dead outwaits AND (b) its not a mission or FoW or UW (whereby the whole team is booted if everyone is dead -- eg all are dead except Mr Griefer and after 30mins Mr G gives up and quits... and now suddenly there aren't any surviving members so the whole team is booted and Mr Dead STILL doesn't get his rightful item)

So Mr Griefer knows that if a good item drops in any mission or FoW or UW.... and he manages to get team to all die while surviving himself, he is almost guarunteed to get the drop because Mr Owner 99% won't outwait him for an item Mr Owner CANNOT get anyways because when Mr Griefer leaves, the whole team is booted. Sad but true.

That's a sad story, and I do agree that it would be nice to have a means to not have this form of possible griefing.

I'll take it to the team and see what we can devise. It's very tricky, because sometimes having someone else pick up is to your advantage, and sometimes it's not.

Food for thought, to be sure!

Ideally, you could right click on an item or something, and be given the option to make it public. Or as a game-level setting, where you say, "Never make my drops public", and face the consequences if something great drops and you are dead (with no ressurection available).

Ahem, plz dont make me open the eula guidelines or that nice agreement you sign when you make an account. I would call you an idiot, but ill be nice and give you the benifit of the doubt of being misinformed.

Back to the discussion at hand. The guy is obviously exploiting game mechanics in order to steal something which isnt his and waisting peoples time in doing so. Lets not forget the -->obvious<-- reason they put the public timer in: so people can pick up stuff others stuff that they don't want when they go rushing by it. You think that isnt possible? i see people do it to stuff all the time.

EDIT: Oh and now that i think about it, to keep afkers, you know.. the free riders... from getting all the loot at the end for not doing anything.

Now for this, you can argue for roleplaying, sematics, and whatever you want in the quote above or others. But it still will not change the 'fact' that the dude exploited a game mechanic, and deserves to be banned, plain and simple, case closed.

You really think the devs put this feature in so some dude can wait around after his team dies, just to pick up loot? I seriously suggest you rethink that statement...

The wise man says: "It is better to have the world 'think' you are a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"
